A smooth sea never made a skilful sailor, and this design celebrates the rough water that does.
The classic proverb is set in bold, hand-drawn lettering with a vintage woodtype feel. “A Smooth Sea” arcs across the top in burnt orange, “Never Made” in teal runs down the sides, and “Skilful Sailor” anchors the bottom. Teal four-point stars separate the words. In the centre, a vessel with portholes and a periscope rides a huge curling wave, drawn in fine engraved lines that shift from teal through green to deep blue, with foam crests along the top.
The whole piece is finished in a halftone dot texture, which gives it a retro screen-print look. The orange, teal and blue colours are bright and bold, so they stand out against a black T-shirt.
